FH - Ideas For The Characters

These two characters are from the movies 'wild child' and '17 again', these are the costumes that inspired our characters appearance's. We found these pictures on google.

Anthea Lovell
We would like to make the character of Anthea look like Emma Roberts in her Movie 'Wild Child'.She is a typical blonde, American stereotype. Her clothing signify that she is rich and her sun glasses signify that she is trying to hide away from people to hope they do not recognize her. Our actress is Zoe Smith, she is going to atempt the American accent other wise we will keep it English.

This picture of Zac Efron has the basic casual look we would like our character Jake to have.We want Jake to have a casual look as he is only going to work and is going to be late so it looks like he hasn't made too much effort which will show us the difference between him and Anthea. Wearing a plain jacket will give away his personality of been plain. Carl Hewitt is going to be the actor to play Jake.

FH - ideas for the titles

  • When Jake gets out of bed, we can have titles written where he was asleep, we can use an old sheet or old piece of fabric and write on it.
  • Opening the curtains, names on window.
  • On the cafe Nero cup we can have names on it.
  • On the timetable of trains, or in the shelter bit.
  • Post coming through the door, names on the letter.
  • in the fridge he can pull out orange juice (him in background and camera on table and names on orange juice) and other items for breakfast.

FH - Spot Light Love

I am working with Charlotte Barraclough.
For our film we have combined both our pitch ideas to create a new idea. It is a romantic comedy and our target audience is towards teenagers and adults.

The story line is a young man, Jake Thomson, he is a waiter and is going to work by train. On the train he opens a newspaper and there is a picture of a beautiful woman (Anthea Lovell) but he does not know much of her. The train arrives at Ilkley, Jake is very late so is rushing but as he is speedily walking to work on this perticular day he bumps into a famous actress, Anthiea Lovell, making her drop her shopping as well as both their mobiles which happen to be the same, he does not know who she is which affends her. He ends up noticing that it is not his mobile so he rings his phone, which she has, and says "hi, i have your phone" this will be the end of the opening of the film.

Setting
For our settings we need a train station and a coffee shop. We have decided to use Ilkley and Burley station's for when Jake Thomson gets on the train (at Burley) and gets off (at Ilkley). We are going to base the incodent when they bump into one another outside cafe Nero (Ilkley).

Mise-en-scene
  • a newspaper or magazine
  • wallet
  • photo card
  • train ticket
  • 2 mobile phones
  • Starbucks cup
  • sunglasses
  • heels
  • a waiter name badge
  • shopping bags
Costume
Jake Thomson - Black trousers and shoes, a white shirt, name tag, a plain jacket.
Anthiea Lovell- Blonde, sunglasses, big ear-rings, heels,  light coloured clothing e.g. skirt, top & a jacket.

Sound
Diagetic sound will be used up until they bump into each other which will then turn to non diagetic sound as they will say a few things to each other and then it will go into diagetic sound when they leave each other.

How to make the prelim better

  •  I needed to be included in the shots.
  •  Camera shots were shaky so we should of used a tripod.
  •  We needed to edit in the purposely broken 180 degree rule to show how it does not work.
  •  We could of had a set genre rather than just an everyday theme.
  •  We needed appropriate props and scene.
  •  The acting needs to be more serious and thought out before hand rather than last minute decisions because then we would of had an idea of what to do during the filming as we only had an hour.
  • In the background we can see Sam, we should of made sure there was no one behind what we were shooting.
  • We needed to have narrative enigma, We could of kept Charlie's identity hidden e.g. shot of feet coming through the door rather than his face.
  • There are a lot of jump cuts so we should of taken more shots.
  • The shots we took we should of varied and taken long shots as well as close ups. There is a shot when Harry says that he is much better than Sam so we should of taken a low angle shot to show him as bigger and more controlling.
  • To show the viewers anchorage of where we are we should of taken a master shot of the room/ surroundings.

Prelim Task

Preliminary exercise: Continuity task involving filming and editing a character opening a door, crossing a room and sitting down in a chair opposite another character, with whom she/he then exchanges a couple of lines of dialogue. This task should demonstrate match on action, shot/reverse shot and the 180-degree rule.

Match on Action- either an action commenced in shot A is completed in shot B, or an action in shot A is mirrored by an action in shot B, for example when we cut from character A in location A reading a letter to character B in location B reading the same letter.

Shot/Reverse shot-A shot in which one character is shown then cuts to the other character and back again.

180 degree rule- The 180° rule is a basic guideline in film making that states that two characters (or other elements) in the same scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If the camera passes over the imaginary axis connecting the two subjects, it is called crossing the line.

Deconstruction of Neclace (micro-drama)

Mise-en-scene
The Props that we used did not give of much anchorage to the viewers as we only used one prop which was a neclace (been the magical object). It was meant to show that it would carry safety to the character although we did not make this clear. There were little props used which did not show the viewers which characters (possibly) were hero, villain/s, princess magical creature etc. The location was in a 'quiet' isolated area showing that the girl (charlotte) was been stalked. Charlotte was the victim been stalked and by using her mobile to make a call to some-one gave anchorage that she was alone and in the situation of been alone, possibly unaware that she was been followed and scared.

Audience
Our target audience were teenagers of a large varity. Steriotypically we asume that it would mainly be 13-17year olds and female viewers as there was not much violence.

Sound
We used non-diegetic sounds throught the film to create tension. We used the sound of a heartbeat at the times that the stalkers were on the move, this technique wa used to cause tension to the viewers and have that 'edge' of what was going to happen next. The sound of footsteps was also added to show the villains presense on screen and to give the effect of someone been followed. The dialogue was short and said "where are you?" giving the audience the impresion that the victim was alone and waiting to find some one as she may of been caucious and scared.

Expositiongeneral idea of the main character we made charlotte look vunerable as
Charlotte was our main character in the film, to give our audience the she was by herself. The two villains were obvious as they were whispering and keeping far from charlotte whilste following her to her destination, they also ran away at the end of the film when the victim had met a friend. The friend was 'sent' by the magical nechlace to protect charlotte, although this was not that obvious to the viewers, so she was the false hero as she saved charlotte with the help of the magical object without knowing it.

Lessons learnt from Micro drama.

From the micro drama i leant;

  • The story needs to be planned properly and in detail, knowing who needs to be in what shots with certain props and dialogue.
  • Should take more shots of the scenes so that you have coverage to back you up when it comes to editing just incase you would like to change or add things. It is better to have more than less!
  • Include cross cut shots when people are using dialogue to brake away and make it less boring to watch. e.g. an extreme close up of a prop.
  • Take shots from different angles and positions to see which shot goes best with the situation.
  • Make sure that the story makes sense to viewers and doesn't cause confusion.
